Summer Undergraduate Research Apprenticeships (SURA)

Speaker:
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 22 May 2023

The Summer Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship (SURA) course awards tuition-free elective credit to undergraduates (in any major) for existing faculty projects focused on undergraduate research or creative inquiry under the direction of a Carnegie Mellon faculty member. Students are responsible for finding a faculty member who is willing and able to supervise them over the summer. Tenure track, teaching track, research track, librarian track, and special faculty at Carnegie Mellon may serve as SURA mentors.  Research with faculty outside of Carnegie Mellon is not permitted. Students can find a faculty mentor for SURA in multiple ways: via classes, department profiles, cold emailing, etc. Additionally, to help students connect more easily with faculty, visit the compiled list of faculty-led projects that are seeking SURA researchers.
  • Eligible students who are interested in these projects or who have other questions about SURA are encouraged to sign up for a one-on-one appointment with Richelle Bernazzoli or Paige Zalman.
  • Faculty who would like help recruiting SURA students for this summer can submit their research or creative inquiry projects on the  optional project recruiting form.
Students who wish to participate in SURA should find a faculty mentor and submit the required registration form by 22 May 2023.
