It didn't come from a textbook, instead, it grew organically to meet the demands of the workloads we were targeting. This talk will discuss some of the uncommon choices we've made in MariaDB's new optimizer and what we've got (and lost) as a result. — Ulf Michael Widenius (often called Monty) is the main author of the original version of the open source MySQL database, a founding member of the MySQL AB company and CTO of the MariaDB Corporation AB.
