Smart Safety Connection Seminar - Christoph Mertz April 11, 2025 12:30pm — 1:30pm Location: In Person and Virtual - ET - Scott Hall 6142 and Livestream Speaker: CHRISTOPH MERTZ , Principal Project Scientist, The Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, https://www.ri.cmu.edu/ri-people/christoph-mertz/ The Dangerous Long Tail of Transportation: Construction Zones Navigating work zones autonomously is challenging: They contain unique objects, signs have different meanings, and different rules apply compared to normal roads. There is also a lack of open datasets. Our new ROADWork dataset addresses this gap, and with it we are able to improve state-of-the-art models across perception and navigation tasks. In this talk we will show how our new dataset is a step forward in solving the autonomous driving problem in construction zones. Safety21 is a collaboration between several institutions, spanning many disciplines. REGISTRATION → Requested in advance (lunch provided for in person attendees) → Due to space constraints, there will be a limit for in-person attendance with a virtual option Event Website: https://safety21.cmu.edu/whats-happening/ Add event to Google Add event to iCal
