The General Relativity of Privacy: From Spacetime to Contextime

In this seminar, taking cues from Einstein’s theory of general relativity, Alashoor will introduce the “General Relativity of Privacy,” offering a new way to see privacy today. He will touch on foundational terms in the multidisciplinary domain of privacy, starting with the basic principles of privacy and security, and concluding with an exploration of data practices and their implications at the individual, organizational, and country level.

Building on this foundation, he will draw from several studies to share empirical findings that spotlight privacy manipulation techniques influencing decisions to share or protect personal data. These techniques might not only reveal personal information assets, but they could also, directly or indirectly, expose organizational information assets, posing significant cybersecurity risks across various levels. By the end of the seminar, attendees will be equipped with valuable knowledge and soft skills, such as privacy awareness, that will aid them in making informed privacy decisions, thereby helping to mitigate potential cybersecurity risks
