In this talk I propose that AI systems need to be studied and developed in terms of the partnerships we form with them rather than as systems we react to. To ensure such partnerships are trustworthy, a multi-disciplinary approach is needed and I will provide some examples of past and current work I’m undertaking in this area, focusing on applications of multi-agent systems in social care and edge AI systems in agriculture. I will also describe some of the research, financing, and policy challenges we are addressing across Responsible AI UK, a £33m research and innovation programme that started in 2023.
