Shaw Receives IEEE Computer Society's TCSE Lifetime Achievement Award

Mary Shaw has received the IEEE Computer Society's Technical Community on Software Engineering (TCSE) Lifetime Achievement Award for her pioneering and lifetime contributions to the field of software engineering.
Shaw, the A.J. Perlis University Professor in the Computer Science and Software and Societal Systems departments, was recognized for her contributions in abstract data types, architecture and data abstraction; her devotion to education; and her service to software engineering.
As a professor and researcher, Shaw codified the concepts and principles of software architecture that support the design of modern software, and has co-authored popular textbooks used to educate the next generation of software engineers. In 2014, President Barack Obama awarded Shaw the National Medal of Technology and Innovation for her foundational contributions to the field of software engineering.
The TCSE Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to researchers who have contributed a lifetime of outstanding and sustained contributions to the software engineering community that have resulted in real and lasting impact. Shaw will receive the award in April at the 2024 International Conference on Software Engineering in Lisbon, Portugal.
